A Real Princess' Carriage

As we are getting information about the Royal Wedding of this spring ( in little more than a month actually) drop by drop, after the revelation about Kate's wedding dress designer, here comes the picture of the carriage that will escort the newlyweds, Kate Middleton and Prince William after the ceremony.

The carriage participates to the real fairytale, bringing a kind of Cinderella vibe, but unlike the Disney Princess, her story is real and the carriage won't turn into a huge pumpkin!! :-)

The 1902 State Landau is the same that carried William's parents following their wedding ceremony in 1981. And, to arrive to Westminster Abbey, Kate reportedly chose a Rolls-Royce Phantom IV for its large windows (as illustrated below) rather than the glass carriage Princess Diana arrived in.

You see the contrast between the modern-looking Rolls-Royce and the retro carriage? This ambivalence is all about the Modern Princess which has to live in her time while carrying the family's values and long-established institutions and customs!

This is going to be a very difficult act to get right. In the midst of fighting, aggression, youngsters trying to attain liberty and fighting desperately for it; as we watch with anguish the struggle for freedom on our screens every and all day, how is this wedding celebration going to find its place? For some it will seem like a welcome relief, whereas for others something quite surreal in our day and age.
But on with the show, and I for one, am delighted to see that happiness , beauty, and why not, fortune, good fortune, can still exist. Isn't this what all the fighting is about basically?
