Yesterday, were revealed the nominees and award winners for the CFDA Awards 2011 (For those who don’t know, CFDA stands for Council of Fashion Designers of America) representing one of the important recognition prize in the fashion industry. Designers such as Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Jason Wu are nominated in various categories. While for some prizes, the winner is still a mystery which will be revealed on the 6th of June, during the 2011 CFDA Awards ceremony, for the 3 following awards we already know the winners.
International Designer of the Year:
Phoebe Philo for her work at Céline |
Goeffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award:
Marc Jacobs |
Fashion Icon of the Year:
Lady Gaga |
I couldn’t agree more for the Designer of the Year prize as I have an immense admiration for Phoebe Philo, for the work she has done at Céline after her few years of break. How she was able to conciliate her family life with here designer job, creating a line that amazes us season after season while always keeping it simple and low-key. Less is more seems to be Phoebe Philo’s mantra and I love it!
Also, regarding Marc Jacobs’ price, I also fully agree as he has an immense creative talent which he proved over the past years through his collection at Louis Vuitton and at his own brand which season after season proposes a new spirit, often acting as a real trend-setter.
Then, for the Fashion Icon of the Year, I would state that the Award reveals once more that today, conformity is completely overrated and that what is rewarded here is “fashion revolution”!! As a matter of fact, Lady Gaga has made us look into fashion with a completely different eye, proposing us looks we wouldn’t even dare to think of and by receiving this award it seems as if the fashion world doesn’t mind having its boundaries challenged! We will be curiously looking at how the Fashion Icon of the Year will decide to dress for the occasion!!!!
