Le Style Balmain

The news came yesterday, Christophe Decarnin will be leaving his place of Artistic Director of the French House Balmain.

Designated in 2007 to take in his hands and revamp the designs of the aging brand, Decarnin imposed a real "Balmain Style", and now that time is to dress a final assessment, I have to say, that for my part, his years at Balmain were the best.

The lines were rejuvenated seasons after seasons, while the designs differentiated themselves with a seducing edginess from the other selective brands. Being the first to integrate widely leather, studded vests and trousers, oversized shoulders, officer jackets, red leather pants, metallic looks, some of his outfits were the dream of many fashionistas. As a matter of fact, I think all of us have dreamt at some point to own this famous officer jacket (see here bellow). You know I am right… ;-). Moreover, Decarnin collections seduced by their rock and chic punk looks while brought back underground style to the front line.

While the fashion business has its own “mercato” and as the successor is still unknown, in honor to Decarnin successful years at Balmain, take a look at my selection from the spring 2011 show.
